Congratulations to our lovely volunteer Aileen, who received Runner Up Volunteer of the Year Award in the Mayor’s Community Awards 2025 for her ongoing commitment to community work in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area. Aileen has been a Home-Start Lisburn Volunteer for 14 years, and has faithfully supported many families. She richly deserves this award; we are proud of you Aileen.
In celebration of Volunteers’ Week we held a pizza and book folding night to thank our wonderful volunteers. Everyone enjoyed yummy pizza and cupcakes and then got to work learning how to create a beautiful pattern by folding the pages of a book. A great night was had by all.
We are starting our next Volunteer Preparation Course on Wednesday 17th January 2024, 9.30-11.30 am, one morning a week for four weeks. Our two amazing volunteers, Yvette & Aileen, pictured with a member of the Royal Company of Archers, attending a garden party at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh on 4th July. This was to recognise and celebrate the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which we officially received in Nov ’22. We are so blessed to have all of our volunteers, and they absolutely deserve this award!
To say THANK YOU to our wonderful volunteers we held a King’s Coronation Jewellery making event on Wednesday evening 7th June. Everyone enjoyed making a memory bracelet, and some even created matching earrings! Thank you to Lynda from Jewel Parties for teaching us so ably and helping us with the tricky parts. Thanks also to Rare Grazing NI for providing yummy Coronation themed food boxes. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
If you are a parent/grandparent/carer and have about three hours to spare each week, you could maybe provide support for a local family to access some toddler groups, go for a walk, to listen and provide emotional support or provide practical support to them on their parenting journey.
All out-of-pocket expenses will be covered, full training provided. Volunteering can be term time only. Training will commence in June 2023 with volunteer support starting in September.
